There is a not-so-secret society of fair-use image collections, known to some simply as clip art, where artists source magazine bitmap illustrations, cartoon-style advertisements, and other ephemera from a wide range of printed materials.
You may have heard of Craphound, or its creator, Sean Tejaratchi, whose fascination with clip art has led journalists to describe him as a “taxonomic guerrilla and semiotic hoarder.”
