Fair and Square
There is a not-so-secret society of fair-use image collections, known to some simply as clip art, where artists source magazine bitmap illustrations, cartoon-style advertisements, and other ephemera from a wide range of printed materials.
You may have heard of Craphound, or its creator, Sean Tejaratchi, whose fascination with clip art has led journalists to describe him as a “taxonomic guerrilla and semiotic hoarder.” Tejaratchi’s personal collection, and methods of organizing clip art, across countless publications inspired me to create this pseudo-online archive—one that offers a level of accessibility that purchasing physical copies alone cannot provide to artists and collectors alike.
